Why Mosaic SA in the US Exists

In South Africa, most orphaned and vulnerable children will never enter formal foster care. Instead, they are cared for by extended family members, often grandmothers, aunts, or relatives who step in out of love, yet frequently lack the resources, training, and support needed to provide long-term stability.

Mosaic SA in the US exists to invite supporters into this reality, offering a trusted and accountable way to strengthen families so children can remain safely within homes and communities. Rather than removing children from their context, Mosaic focuses on equipping caregivers and addressing the complex, real-life challenges families face.

This work is grounded in Mosaic’s community centers in South Africa, where dedicated, multidisciplinary teams provide consistent, personal care to families and children.

At the heart of our work is one shared purpose: to see every orphaned and vulnerable child grow up in a loving family and reach their God-given potential.

How US Support Fuels Impact

Through Mosaic SA in the US, supporters help mobilize three strategic priorities that drive lasting impact:

  • Strengthening Families Through Deep-Impact, Family-Based Care
Equipping caregivers through training, workshops, and individual interventions, supported by social workers and social auxiliary workers who walk alongside families over time. This wrap-around approach strengthens caregiver-child relationships, supports child development, and ensures care that is dignified, consistent, and safe.
  • Innovating for Impact Through Learning and Data
Fueling Mosaic’s use of data and learning frameworks to improve care, accountability, and outcomes. By applying insights from practice, Mosaic strengthens service delivery and contributes to reimagining how orphan care systems can function more effectively and sustainably.
  • Scaling Impact Through Partnerships
Strengthening other community-based organizations through training, supervision, consultation, and shared best practices. By equipping partners with the tools and systems needed to serve families well, Mosaic extends impact far beyond its own programs.
